Working with Lisa
There's a lot to read on this page, but I'm confident you'll find worth in slugging through. This page is the result of years of over thinking and planning and honing and defining. Reading this will highlight the many facets of my business brain.
I charge an hourly fee for my time based on the type of work I’m completing for you.
DESIGN FEES are for my time and expertise to complete our project. Pricing is calculated based on your needs and the project’s scope. Simple tasks cost less than complex ones and brainstorming.
PRINT / PHYSICAL FEES are charged separately. I charge material costs plus markup which includes my time and experience with individual vendors and their product sizing and finishes.
OTHER FEES usually come from anything I order for you, physically touch or process, or any time I put an order on my credit card. I do not mark these fees up, I simply pass along the additional cost.
Anti-capitalist in end-stage capitalism.
As much as I dislike the reality, time is money. When I take on a project, I put my all into making sure the end result is successful for both of us. All too often, I don’t mind handling last-minute or unexpected details, but I’ve realized I need to charge for my extra time when the project scope expands.
While my goal is to make enough money to support my family, I am also focused on returning to community-based business ideals. A ladder-builder at heart, it’s my belief that your success is my success and vice versa. It is never my intention to let my ego be a barrier to your success.
It’s my job to make pretty things and make things pretty, but it’s also my job to make your experience less stressful and significantly easier. That’s a service that has value. I’m not expensive, I’m worth it.
Position on A.I.
At the risk of being harsh, there is no ethical or reasonable use of AI in today’s times. All generative AI models were taught with stolen work from other artists, and the slop generated is a soulless, low-resolution facsimile of human-generated art. Not to mention the environmental destruction and community danger from data centers.
I understand if others choose to use AI for idea generation and visual guide. However, the designs generated are low-resolution and not usable for large-format printing and design. I will charge my full price to re-create usable images.
Thoughts on Canva
While Canva is an excellent tool for non-designers and organizations with limited budgets, it is not a tool that I choose to use. Images are typically low-resolution and / or difficult to use for further design needs. Their design function is passing for basic layouts but incredibly difficult to use when you have a high focus on precision and attention to the most minute details.
Not to mention Canva has it written in the fine print that everything created with or in Canva is their property and cannot be copyrighted. Learn more here.
Focused equally on design and customer service.
I focus on your needs to make sure you get exactly what you want and are 100% happy with my designs.
I’m also working on establishing and maintaining boundaries for both of us, so our working relationship is based on mutual respect and understanding.
Values-aligned clients, vendors, and community.
I have spent the past several years cultivating a working community full of people and companies that share my moral base and value structure.
None of us are perfect, but all of us are kind and incredibly good at what we do.
Strong work ethic with mountains of support.
I consider myself privileged to be surrounded by people that help me grow and - in turn - trust me to help them grow with me.
My working relationships tend to be long lasting.
I am a walking paradox. I contain multitudes.
I have a bright and sunny disposition with a fair amount of spice baked into my personality.
My work ethic is rock solid, my ambition is (mostly) balanced, and my logic is fairly intuitive.
I either over communicate or get so wrapped up in design that I forget to give updates. With this knowledge, I always welcome a gentle nudge to touch base.
I try and fail miserably to maintain a professional demeanor, and - with humor as my defense - end up laughing often. However, I approach every project with respect and consideration.
My customer service is out of this world. I strive to exceed expectations with every project. I also put my money where my mouth is and will walk away from a relationship if our values veer too far from each other.
You know that saying, “You can have it quick, cheap, or done right. Pick TWO.”? That. Except done right is never not an options, so this is my confusingly clever way to let you know that I’m expensive but worth it.
